The Dog House - How To Shade A Deck

I was thinking of what the best way to add some shade to my deck area. This is my first home and I plan on staying here a couple years but not forever so I would like to keep things as in-permanent as possible. Also I have 4 dogs that like to dig wandering if planting some shrubs or bushes where they do dig would give them some kind of shade to not do so.
