Stellar Pink DogwoodStellar Pink Dogwood is a beautiful specimen tree. Large pink blossoms open in the spring, attracting butterflies. Birds are also attracted to this spectacular tree.Dogwood is easy to grow, requiring sun and moist soil. In fall, the leaves turn a fabulous purple red mixture. The pink blossoms are very delicately colored and bloom so profusely that the tree looks like a pink cloud. The flowers are sterile and do not produce a fruit. Fall color is abundant when the leaves turn a vivid red or bright burgundy. This vigorous growing tree wants to be the star of the show. This cultivar was bred to address the problems with dogwood anthracnose, which decimated a lot of dogwoods during the last few decades of the twentieth century. Planting IdeasStellar Pink Dogwood attracts birds to the garden with its showy fruit. Butterflies love the flowers. It is the perfect addition to a woodland garden. It makes a perfect specimen plant.Surround it with dwarf conifers, rhododendrons and evergreen groundcovers for a perfect look. The profuse amount of blooms on this tree makes it a show stopper in the garden. Smaller specimens can be kept potted for awhile, but be sure they don't dry out. Planting and Care TipsStellar Pink Dogwood has improved pest and disease resistance. Plant it in full sun or partial shade in acidic, moist, well drained soil. Water it regularly.Pruning is not necessary unless you are removing damaged branches. If you do want to prune for shaping, do it soon after flowering is done so you don't reduce the flower production for the next year. When stressed, dogwood is susceptible to several diseases, especially dogwood anthracnose. It may also be prone to leaf spot, root rot, crown canker and powdery mildew. Watch for infestations of leaf miners, borers and scale. Hot sun may cause the leaves to scorch. Mulching helps keep moisture where it is needed. Fertilizing is recommended to support the flowering and foliage development. This is a patented plant that does not produce seed. Dogwood Information
