Karley Rose Fountain Grass

Karley Rose fountain grass is a hardy fountain grass that does well in cooler climates. The bright green narrow foliage is topped with fluffy pink plumes in summer and early fall. It is easy to grow and requires only a minimum of care.

It grows in a clumping habit, which gives it that fountain like look as the leaves and plumes grow up and out. The color has been improved in this cultivar, offering a richer rose pink.

In the fall, the foliage turns a lovely yellow. The slightest breeze makes movement in the garden by rustling through this ornamental grass. This plant makes a nice backdrop to smaller annuals or perennials. It also makes a natural focal point due to its grace and color.

Plant it so the plumes are backlit in the morning or afternoon for a spectacular display. The texture contrast it provides in the garden is a great addition to any landscape.

Landscape Ideas

karley rose fountain grass Karley Rose fountain grass is perfect along the edge of a pond or in a border. Try it in a mass planting for a unique groundcover that will help prevent erosion. The effect of the grass waving in the wind is spectacular with its visual artistry and soft rustling.

It also works well in a container as an accent. Use the plumes in cut flower arrangements.

Since it is drought tolerant, use it in desert and xeriscape gardens. It livens up rock gardens, too. In winter it fades to a pale straw color that gives winter interest.

Plant Karley Rose fountain grass with butterfly bush, lilac and violets for a lovely contrast. Any perennials in pinks, blues and purples will complement it.

Care And Planting Tips

Karley Rose fountain grass is easy to care for. Plant it in full sun to partial shade in nice well-drained soil. It will establish itself quickly. Water sparingly on a regular basis.

Cut back old growth in spring to encourage new greenery. Keep it within 6 inches of the ground when pruning.

Plants can be divided when they become overcrowded. Do this in early spring before new growth begins. Simply dig up the plant and slice it in half with a sharp spade. Plant each half to the same depth they were before.
