Isanti Dogwood Shrub

Isanti Dogwood has a more compact form than many other red twig dogwoods. The bright green foliage looks great during most of the year. Clusters of white star shaped flowers adorn the shrub in late spring.

White berries appear after the flowers are gone. In the autumn, leaves turn a lovely reddish-purple color. In winter, the bright red twigs of this bush really make it stand out. This shrub is fast growing and may work well under taller plantings to add interest.

Landscaping Ideas

isanti dogwood The Isanti Dogwood is perfect for a woodland garden. It naturalizes easily and offers dramatic color in the fall and winter. Use it in a damp spot in the garden where other plants have problems.

You can plant the Isanti Dogwood in a small hedge, a screen or in a border. It works very nice as a property line screen.

Mass plantings look nice, especially in the winter. It works well to control erosion along streams or other natural water sources.

For a nice contrast, plant it with beautyberry and variegated moor grass. Butterflies are attracted by the flowers and wild birds are attracted by the white berries. Twigs are great in cut arrangements in winter or for holiday decor.

Care and Planting Tips

Plant Isanti Dogwood in a sunny or semi shady spot for the best color results. It likes moisture, so if you have a wet spot this is the plant to use. If not, water regularly. Fertilize in spring for the best growth. This is a low maintenance plant that is very easy to grow.

Although it isn't really necessary, you can prune this shrub in the late winter or early spring to encourage bright new twigs to show off next winter.

This plant spreads through underground suckers. If you prefer to contain them, suckers can be cut with a spade and removed. This shrub may be susceptible to twig and leaf blights. Watch for infestations of bagworms, leaf miners and scale.
