Fireworks Fountain GrassFireworks fountain grass offers dramatic color for your garden. The deep reddish-purple leaves have dark centers. In the very center of the plant where sun doesn't reach, the leaves retain green coloring, adding to the multicolor effect.
There is no way anyone can overlook this stunning ornamental grass. Not only will the color attract attention, but the long thin leaves arch gracefully from the base of the plant, giving it a fountain shape. Purplish-pink blooms grace the plant in summer.
Native to Africa, this attractive ornamental grass is tender and must be protected from cold weather. This plant was considered the Best New Variety at Colorado State University's Trial Gardens in 2008. It performed well all during growing trials.
Landscaping With FireworksFireworks fountain grass looks lovely next to water features. Their reflections double your enjoyment of this spectacular plant. Use it in a mixed border to add a contrast of color and texture. They do well in containers, both by themselves and in mixed plantings. A mass planting of this ornamental grass is breathtaking, but even used as an accent, it can be stunning.
Use it to outline your patio or deck in a colorful display. Fireworks fountain grass fits perfectly in many different gardening styles such as tropical, Mediterranean, contemporary or Asian and Zen gardens.
As the breeze comes through, the leaves and seed heads will add movement and life to the garden as well as sound. Plant this grass where you can easily see it from your window or porch so you can enjoy it as often as possible.
Care And Planting TipsThis fountain grass should be planted in full sun for the best color, although it will do fine in partial shade. Water regularly until the plant is established.
Once it has established a good root system it is drought tolerant, needing only occasional watering in the driest weather. It is deer resistant.
In colder areas, try growing it as an annual or a houseplant during the winter months. Fertilize annually with a slow release plant food. Prune vigorously to encourage new growth as the colors tend to fade with age.
